HSP Welcomes Two New Councilors


Philadelphia, April 5, 2022 – At its most recent meeting, HSP’s Board of Councilors elected two new members, LiRon Anderson-Bell and Denise J. Smyler, Esquire.


LiRon Anderson-Bell is a veteran communication strategist and educator. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the department of Advertising and Public Relations at Temple University’s Lew Klein College of Media and Communication, and president of Anderson Bell Strategic Communication. She has experience developing programs in public relations, crisis communication, diversity/equity/inclusion, marketing, internal communication and change management for major consumer brands, city governments, political figures and public figures. LiRon looks forward to supporting HSP’s branding and messaging as we find new ways to activate stories from the collections.


Denise J. Smyler serves as chairperson of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Gaming Control Board. Smyler most recently served as General Counsel of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Prior to being appointed General Counsel by Governor Wolf, Smyler owned and managed a “boutique law firm”, worked as an assistant district attorney, as legal counsel to the Philadelphia Prison Commissioner, and subsequently as chief legal counsel to the Philadelphia Police Commissioner. As General Counsel, Smyler oversaw the provision of legal services to the governor, his senior staff, and more than 30 executive branch and independent agencies. Denise brings a vast professional network and will help advance HSP and its mission through her experience and expertise in government relations and legal affairs.
